TVE located Abdou, the young Senegalese who was comforted by Moon, a Red Cross volunteer, in an image that captivated the world in the midst of the migratory crisis experienced in recent days in Ceuta. Ana Jimenez, the correspondent of the chain, met with him in Morocco, already returned by the Spanish authorities, and managed to put him in contact with the health service by video call in a very emotional moment in which neither of them could not contain the tears. The meeting has been seen at the opening of the newscast at 3 pm and has had a final football nod.
Abdou has explained that he is an orphan and that he lived with his brother and grandmother in Dakar (Senegal), where he worked as a bricklayer. She is 27 years old and has been trying to cross the border to Ceuta for four years to be able to work in Europe and send money to her grandmother. He says that that day he tried it with his brother. They walked from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and then swam the 20 minutes that separate the border between Africa and Europe. It was for his brother that he cried on the shore of Tarajal beach when he saw that he did not react while they attended to him a few meters away, at which time Moon consoled him. Until now he does not know what has become of him.
“I can never forget his gesture. She just did her job. It comforted me, it helped me, it was a human gesture ”, he explained, confessing that he would like to see her again to personally thank her for her gesture with him. He does not understand the sexist and racist attacks he received Moon after his hug went viral.
“I was not afraid of dying. I just want to start a new life, a life of dignity ”. And then, more his friends than him, his other dream came out in the report: to see his team play one day, the Barça. Those who live with him in a dilapidated apartment in Morocco say that he is very good.
