The end of Women’s Champions League Göteborg was played in the midst of the open fight between the promoters of the Superliga and UEFA. The expectation to see together in the box of the Gamla Ullevi stadium the president of Barça Joan Laporta and the highest European federative representative Aleksander ceferin it was huge. But nothing happened, beyond a cold and formal meeting. No meeting had been scheduled and there was no talk on the matter between them. Nothing that would suggest that relations could have been softened or relaxed after the opening of a sanctioning file and the threats of exclusion for two seasons.
The meeting before, during and after the final was aseptic, with an obvious coldness and detachment, as eyewitnesses have explained to MD. The controversy was taking its toll. Not a gesture that could lower the tension more than those forced by circumstances.
There was no talk. They met earlier in the preview, when there was an exchange of gifts. Later, at the start of the game, they sat in the box next to each other, Laporta, to the left of Ceferin and to the right of the UEFA president, Roman Abramovich, owner of Chelsea. They watched the game without great emotions due to the enormous Barça superiority from the first minute. After the delivery of medals and the cup, Ceferin congratulated Laporta and but without any conversation in between.
