The red operator has decided that Malaga is the chosen location by holding an international competition that took place between January and March to choose in which European city it would establish its next research and development center. In fact, seven cities from five European countries were submitted. They had to answer an extensive questionnaire in which aspects such as:
“Lifestyle, availability of talent with the necessary technical knowledge, working conditions, transportation, public aid and bonuses, connections with universities or the attractiveness of each site for talent, among others.”
European R & D & i excellence center in Malaga
After thoroughly assessing all these aspects and holding different meetings with companies that already operate in the city of Malaga, Vodafone decided to select the capital of the Costa del Sol for its European R&D center of excellence. The Andalusian city offered the best combination when evaluating all the selection criteria.
Colman Deegan, CEO of Vodafone Spain, explained that “this European Vodafone Business Center is a great opportunity for the city of Malaga, not only because of the highly qualified employment it will generate, but also because it will enhance the activity of the city and the digital ecosystem that has been developed in recent years. The Vodafone Hub will help Spain and the city of Malaga continue to be a national and international benchmark in attracting and promoting business projects and in the creation of products and services based on innovation and new technologies ”.
The center will also serve to promote the consolidation of the technology sector, as the main spearhead of the Andalusian economy, highlighting Vodafone’s commitment to Europe and Spain. At the moment, we do not know the type of projects that will be developed here, but they will be closely related to new technologies like 5G, the Internet of Things or Vodafone’s eSIM.
